Representation of sexuality

Homosexual representation stereotypes of men:
  • Gay men are often stereotyped as very effeminate
  • Emotional, sensitive and in touch with feelings

Stereotypes of heterosexuals:
  • Seen as normal
  • Nothing's wrong or weird about their sexuality



Metro men:
  • Emergent ideology
  • Known for being caring as well as the typical man

Regional identity sterotypes



Coronation street


It's set in Manchester, known for being a working class area slightly aggressive place. Very working class area, with terraced housing, local pub, mainly family based.


The accent heard in this clip are typical Mancunian accents, thick with hints of Yorkshire in there as well,


The dialogue is  very common in respects that the words used and not used are seen as chav like. examples of dialogue used are "what", "take it off", "how could ya do this to me"
